Home investigation - When Nightmares Become Real

In the fall of 2005 we were invited to a home here in Litchfield County. The owners asked
us not to reveal the children's names for fear the children would be harassed. The
woman explained that her 9 year old daughter was experiencing what felt to her like
hands around her throat while she was sleeping. She also stated she saw a man in her
bedroom many times. The child was noticeably scared. She had 2 siblings that never
experienced anything out of the ordinary. The mother said "I am at wits end and don't
know where else to go". She asked us to investigate as soon as we could. While
investigating the history of the home we found it was built 1740 circa. It had been used
to house pastors of a church for more than 250 years. The womans family was the first
family to allowed to rent the home since being built. We found that several pastors had
died in the home as well as one woman. The woman who was a housekeeper was
reported to have died when she drank water from the well unknowing that a raccoon
had fallen in and was decomposing which contaminated the water. The report says she
died in the early 1800's. The mother was interviewed and stated the child's bedroom
was changed several times to different areas and whatever was bothering her, followed.
She said the children were brought up Catholic but recently followed Christian beliefs.

On the night of our investigation we were greeted by the mother and her children. The
children were picked up by their dad who no longer lived there and went with him for the
weekend. The mother said she was going out and have some drinks with friends and we
would have the house to ourselves until 1am. We set up camera, ran standard baseline
tests, set up trigger objects with hopes of getting something to move them and took a
lot of pictures. While doing our investigation we did find several things in the home that
concerned us. There were several books on the occult present, we also found a Ouija
board (the mother did admit to using it to me during the pre-investigation questioning.)
We found tarot cards, and a lock of hair on a dresser which could be used in some black
magic practices.

When we went upstairs we entered the children's bedrooms and their playroom. In the
playroom we found many VCR movie tapes including The Exorcist, Poltergeist, and
Child's Play. We thought with these kind of movies around the children's imaginations
must be running wild. During the investigation we also noticed that when cars drove
down the road after dark the headlights shined through the curtains made some pretty
strange shapes on the wall that appeared to move across the wall. The only strange
thing that happened during our 5 hour stay was while we all were upstairs we heard a
loud bang downstairs. When we went to investigate we found one of our trigger objects
was knocked off a table.
When 1am arrived we packed up our equipment and headed home. One investigator
feels she was followed home that night and said she experienced being pinned in her
bed (which is called Phantom mania). She did ask whatever was there to "Show a sign
that you are here by moving this pencil" (which was set on the edge of a table), by
challenging a spirit or demonic to do something it doesn't mean "smile for the camera",
whatever is there can follow you home and show you a sign by scratching you, pinning
you in bed etc... like what happened to our member this is a practice we do not use.

We followed up with the mother and explained our findings. She became upset when we
asked if there was a possibility that the child had a sleeping disorder and maybe the
movies and environment were aggravating her sleep. She stated "there is something
going on here even if you don't believe me!".  We explained to her whatever is there
could have been brought in by using the Ouija board. Ouija Boards are another item we
do not use and strongly recommend that others stay away from. We told her we could
have someone bless the home if she would like or she could ask the Pastor of her
church. She did choose her Pastor and we told her we would leave the case open and
follow up with her.

*UPDATE* - Several months had gone by and we followed up with the family. The mom
states that things are much better. She said that after the house was blessed things got
better, the child hasn't had any experiences, the mother told us she began Alcoholic
Anonymous, the father also had moved back in.
