Nestled in the mountains of Litchfield County (which is noted as the Gateway to the Berkshire
Mountains) is The Green lady cemetery. Being from the area we have heard alot of stories about
the place but we were never able to find it.

Winchester was first settled in 1732, and later incorporated in 1771 and has many cemeteries.
The Green lady sits in a hidden valley that you really must have a four wheel drive to find. It
actually is off Waterbury Turnpike which all maps say is a dead end. But we found if you follow
Preston road and take a left at the fork you will find the hidden cemetery.

We were told most all the stones are dated in the 1800's. We interviewed a few of the locals
while looking for the place and we heard several stories, mostly the same.  It has a haunting of
a woman who was deserted during the civil war by a man she loved, her name was Mary
Crocker and she died at the young age of 39. She was named the green lady by locals, she is
known by some to walk the cemetery as a green mist shaped as a woman, looking for her love,
others say she doesn't know she is dead. One woman who grew up and lived in Winchester her
whole life told us she has heard of the woman coming out on foggy nights and wanders the
graveyard. She went on to tell us she has visited there many times, but she never actually
experienced any paranormal activity while there but others have reported it.

Our team went in search of the cemetery and finally found it. We haven't had to travel such
roads before to find a place but there it was. The cemetery is miles from anywhere, it was
strange to me to find it off this dirt road at least a mile from anywhere!

Not large of a cemetery holding maybe 80 stones we headed in to set up cameras and voice
recorders. Immediately we noticed burnt candles and areas in the ground which have been
burned. We feared that some of the local kids may have been there to conjure up the ghost of
the green lady. We know this is not a good practice and hope they read this report. Opening
doors that you cant close is dangerous.

Most all of the 80 stones were dated from the 1800's. Alot of them were soldiers which died
during war. Many of the stones were still legible but several have been damaged from vandals.
The cemetery was a little overgrown in areas but we could tell being August, it has been mowed
recently and were amazed someone got down there to mow.
All our Video, Digital voice recordings, and pictures showed up nothing. Our group sensitive
Todd picked up nothing as well. It was drizzling and overcast but not actually foggy. As I
walked up and down the old dirt road I realized how some people would be scared coming here
especially during the dark. You cant hear civilization, it is densely covered by thick growth of
trees making it dark even during the day, and having no cell service would make anyones
sense more on edge.
What we experienced here as a group that night was nothing, we all were in agreement that our
choice is it is a nice place to visit but we feel it is not haunted.

Make sure to bring a four wheel drive if you visit!
We found her resting place but does
Mary Crocker really haunt the cemetery?
Above left: ferns grow wildly throughout the cemetery.

Above right: A burned area in the ground which was used to burn candles. Maybe to summons
the green lady.
